L’électricien français EDF signale une réduction de 11% des émissions de CO2 en 2011, une baisse record qui prend en compte l’ensemble des installations du parc de production d’électricité d’EDF. Pour la première fois dans l’histoire du groupe, les émissions passent sous la barre des 100 grammes par kilowattheure d’électricité produite (99,6 g/kWh).

En prenant uniquement le parc de production situé sur le territoire français, cette baisse atteint 25%, avec 30,4 grammes par kilowattheure d’électricité produite. Les émissions d’EDF en France sont depuis longtemps moins importantes qu’à l’étranger en raison de la nature du mix électrique du pays, dans lequel deux énergies non émettrices, le nucléaire et l’hydraulique, occupent une part très importante.

EDF pense diviser par deux ses émissions de CO2 d’ici 2020, ou plus exactement réduire leur volume total de 30% tout en produisant davantage d’électricité. Des objectifs que l’électricien espère atteindre en poursuivant certaines politiques : croissance des énergies renouvelables, développement des centrales au gaz pour remplacer les centrales au charbon, les plus polluantes.
