Le 19 septembre dernier, le PDG de Total était en déplacement à l’Ecole des Mines de Douai, dans le Nord. Celui qui a accepté de devenir le parrain de la promotion 2016 de l’établissement, en a profité pour accorder une interview au journal local, La Voix du Nord, afin d’évoquer la stratégie de son entreprise.
Ingénieur des Mines, Patrick Pouyanné connaît bien les Hauts-de-France puisqu’il enseignait aux Mines de Douai lorsqu’il travaillait à la DRIRE (Direction régionale de l’industrie, de la recherche et de l’environnement), rattachée au ministère de l’Écologie. De 2012 à 2014, il assurait par ailleurs la direction de la branche raffinerie-chimie de Total, devant ainsi gérer la reconversion de la raffinerie des Flandres à Dunkerque-Mardyck.
Aujourd’hui, il rappelle que son groupe emploie 1 400 personnes dans la région et 220 personnes sur le site de l’ancienne raffinerie, qui abrite désormais le plus grand dépôt pétrolier d’Europe ainsi qu’un centre de formation, mais aussi un centre d’assistance et un centre d’expertise. Mais la première entreprise du CAC40 a également préservé l’activité industrielle en participant au projet BioTfuel, « le plus grand projet de recherche en France dans les biocarburants, un projet à 180 millions d’euros que Total a financé à 25 % ».
En effet, explique le patron du cinquième groupe pétrolier au monde, « les hydrocarbures, le pétrole, le gaz sont au cœur de notre stratégie. Mais il y a également les impératifs de la transition énergétique. (…) Nous voulons développer un nouveau segment d’activité pour Total dans le bas-carbone. Nous visons un mix gaz, énergies renouvelables, électricité. Nous sommes déjà dans le Top 3 mondial depuis le rachat de l’américain Sunpower ».
