Le Royaume du Maroc, situé sur la côte nord-ouest de l’Afrique du Nord, vient de se lancer dans un ambitieux projet de rénovation énergétique de ses lieux de culte. Baptisé « mosquée vertes », ce programme témoigne une fois de plus de l’engagement environnemental du Royaume, à deux mois de l’ouverture de la conférence sur le climat COP22 à Marrakech.

Un ambitieux programme de rénovation énergétique

Le Maroc se veut plus que jamais l’ambassadeur des bonnes pratiques énergétiques afin de réduire son impact sur l’environnement. Comme en témoigne le nouveau programme des « mosquées vertes », lancé en août dernier par le ministère des affaires islamiques, qui vise en effet a réhabiliter 64 lieux de culte dans 6 villes marocaines.

L’objectif est clair : diminuer la facture énergétique de 15.000 mosquées édifiées et entretenues par le gouvernement du Maroc. Selon un audit réalisé par la Société d’Investissements Énergétiques (SIE), il serait possible de réduire jusqu’à 60 % la facture énergétique des lieux de culte concernés.

La première étape de ce programme consistera à équiper 600 mosquées de contrats de performance énergétique d’ici l’horizon 2019. Il s’agira notamment de remplacer les lampes halogènes par des LED, installer des panneaux photovoltaïques sur les toits on encore favoriser l’installation de chauffe-eau solaires. Les promoteurs du projet ont certifié que l’esthétique des édifices ne serait pas modifiée.

52 % d’énergie renouvelable d’ici 2030

Le Maroc compte s’appuyer sur ce programme pour sensibiliser les citoyens: les mosquées sont en effet des lieux importants d’échanges entre Marocains, ce qui permettra de sensibiliser la population aux problématiques d’efficacité énergétique. Les « mosquées vertes » devraient également être un facteur de croissance économique.

« Il permettra la création de 900 très petites entreprises, l’emploi de plus de 5 000 techniciens (…) et la création d’un nouveau marché porteur. Le remboursement de l’investissement sera fait sur la base des économies d’énergies réalisées », estime Jan-Christoph Kuntze, de la coopération allemande GIZ, intervenant sur le projet en soutien technique aux équipes marocaines.

Un des principaux enjeux de la COP22, qui se déroulera du 7 au 18 novembre prochains dans la ville de Marrakech, est de permettre la ratification de l’accord de Paris contre le réchauffement climatique. Le Maroc s’est d’ailleurs engagé à porter à 52 % la part des énergies renouvelables dans son mix énergétique d’ici 2030.
