Si en 2014 les Etats-Unis ont décidé de suspendre partiellement les échanges avec Moscou, désormais la coopération pour l’énergie atomique entre les deux puissances est au point mort. En effet, le Premier ministre russe, Dmitri Medvedev, a signé le 5 octobre dernier un décret afin de suspendre la coopération dans la recherche scientifique et nucléaire liée à l’énergie.
Selon une information du site Sputnik en date du 5 octobre, Dmitri Medvedev vient de signer un décret pour mettre fin à la coopération russo-américaine dans le secteur de l’énergie nucléaire. Cette mesure fait suite aux sanctions adoptées par les Occidentaux début 2014, dans le cadre de la crise ukrainienne.
Au mois d’avril 2014, l’agence Rosatom a effectivement reçu un courrier du département américain de l’Énergie, qui indiquait, contrairement aux dispositions prévues par l’accord signé le 16 septembre 2013 à Vienne, que la coopération concernant l’innovation dans le domaine des combustibles nucléaires était suspendue.
Toutefois, malgré ces nouvelles « contre-mesures », Moscou indique sa volonté de travailler avec la première puissance économique mondiale. Ainsi, le décret stipule que cette décision pourra évoluer « lorsque cela [sera] justifiée d’un point de vue du contexte général des relations avec les États-Unis ».
Interrogé sur cette stratégie, le ministre russe des Affaires étrangères, Sergueï Lavrov, explique que les Américains « ne peuvent pas, d’un côté, introduire des sanctions contre nous là où cela ne leur porte pas trop préjudice, tout en poursuivant, de l’autre, une coopération sélective dans les domaines où ils en retirent des avantages ».
