La filière nucléaire française vient de renforcer sa présence en Grande Bretagne après la validation du projet d’Hinkley Point par le gouvernement de Theresa May. Pour autant, le directeur général d’EDF Energy, Vincent de Rivaz, ne limite pas ses ambitions à la construction de ces 2 EPR. En effet, deux autres réacteurs tricolores pourraient bientôt être commandés par les dirigeants d’Outre-Manche, destinés cette fois au site de Sizewell.
Depuis que Tony Blair a décidé de revoir le livre blanc intitulé « Our energy future – creating a low carbon economy », publié en 2004, le Royaume-Uni cherche à renouveler son parc nucléaire. En décidant de confirmer le projet d’Hinkley Point, nos voisins vont permettrre de créer 4 500 emplois en France, y compris à Belfort » a indiqué le secrétaire d’Etat à l’industrie, Christophe Sirugue, tout se félicitant de cette nouvelle « étape majeure dans la coopération franco-britannique industrielle et énergétique ».
De son côté, le PDG d’EDF, Jean-Bernard Lévy, a évoqué une victoire pour la France et pour la Grande Bretagne, ainsi que « pour tous ceux qui cherchent à produire de l’électricité à des prix compétitifs, sans produire de CO2 du tout, et en ne dépendant pas de pays qui peuvent couper le robinet du jour au lendemain ». De plus, ce chantier sera selon lui le début « de la relance du nucléaire en Europe ».
Un souhait partagé par Vincent de Rivaz, le directeur général d’EDF Energy, la filiale britannique de l’énergéticien. En effet, « l’architecte du contrat de construction des EPR d’Hinkley Point » envisage également de construire deux autres EPR à Sizewell, dans le Suffolk. Actuellement, EDF Energy emploie déjà 20 000 personnes et gère 8 centrales nucléaires : Heysham 1, Heysham 2, Hinkley Point B, Hunterston B, Dungeness B, Hartlepool, Sizewell B et celle de Torness.
