Après avoir racheté le pôle énergie d’Alstom, General Electric Power souhaite poursuivre son développement dans les énergies renouvelables. En effet, le groupe américain vient d’acquérir l’entreprise danoise LM Wind Power, pour 1,5 milliard d’euros.
En 2016, selon la journaliste des Echos Anne Feitz, les revenus de GE Power vont passer de 6,2 à 9 milliards de dollars, notamment grâce à la reprise du fabricant de turbines français. Parallèlement, l’énergéticien continue sa stratégie de croissance interne puisqu’il vient de confirmer l’acquisition de LM Wind Power pour 1,65 milliard de dollars. Cela représente plus de 8 fois le résultat brut d’exploitation de la société, qui emploie 7 000 personnes à travers le monde.
Pour le PDG de GE Renewable Energy, Jérôme Pécresse, il s’agit « d’une nouvelle étape importante pour l’activité renouvelables ». Le dirigeant de la filiale dédiée aux énergies renouvelables, basée à Paris, explique par ailleurs que « les pales, qui représentent de 30 à 35 % du coût d’une éolienne, constituent un composant critique de la performance de la turbine (…) Intégrer des capacités de design et de production de pales nous semblait le seul moyen pour continuer de réduire le coût de production de l’électricité éolienne ».
Grâce à cette opération, GE s’impose comme un « nouveau leader du secteur des énergies renouvelables » précise le journaliste Antonin Moriscot. Toutefois, Anne Feitz note que son concurrent allemand Siemens avait déjà opté pour une stratégie similaire, notamment en fusionnant ses activité dans l’éolien avec l’Espagnol Gamesa, en juin 2016.
