Dans un document relatif à l’énergie en Europe, intitulé « Faire la lumière sur l’énergie dans l’UE », l’agence des statistiques de l’Union Européenne a précisé la part du nucléaire au sein du mix énergétique continental : 29,3%. Au passage, Eurostat indique que de grandes disparités perdurent entre les Etats membres pour leur politique énergétique, comme en atteste l’exemple du couple frano-allemand.
Pour répondre à la question, quelle énergie est disponible en Europe, l’agence Eurostat s’est intéressée aux énergies produites au sein de l’Union européenne en 2014. Ainsi, d’après les statisticiens européens, le mix énergétique de l’UE serait composé d’abord par du nucléaire (29,3%), puis par des énergies renouvelables (25,4%), puis par des combustibles solides (19,4%), mais aussi par du gaz naturel (15,3%) et du pétrole (9,4%).
En publiant cette étude, les experts précisent cependant qu’on trouve une situation énergétique sensiblement différente en fonction des Etats membres considérés. Un graphique illustre par exemple les différences qui existent en précisant, pour tous les pays, la part de chaque produit énergétique dans les consommations nationales. Pour le cas du nucléaire [notre image ci-dessus], la France (45,3%) arrive largement en tête, devant la Suède (34,7%).
D’ailleurs, les différences sont particulièrement remarquables lorsqu’on s’intéresse au couple franco-allemand. En effet, l’Allemagne utilise du pétrole pour répondre à 34,6% de ses besoins en énergie, des combustibles solides (charbon) à 25,6%, du gaz naturel 20,2%, des énergies renouvelables à 11,3% et du nucléaire à seulement 8%. De l’autre côté du Rhin, la part du nucléaire est cette fois à 45,3%, tandis que le pétrole représente encore 31,1%, le gaz naturel 13,1% et les énergies renouvelables 8,6%, pour seulement 3,7% de combustibles solides.
