En Amérique latine, le Mexique, le Chili et le Brésil continuent d’assurer le développement des énergies renouvelables. Pour mettre en oeuvre leur transition énergétique, ces trois pays font notamment confiance à la technologie française et à EDF Energies Nouvelles, afin d’accroitre la part du solaire et de l’éolien au sein de leur mix énergétique.
A l’échelle de la planète, l’énergie éolienne est en forte progression. En effet, selon le Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), elles pourraient représenter 20 % de la production électrique mondiale en 2030, contre 4 % actuellement. Pour expliquer l’élan des ENR en général, et de l’éolien en particulier, les experts avancent le dynamisme des nouveaux marchés en Amérique latine. Et pour l’AIE, le Mexique est par exemple un « pays clef ».

De l’autre côté de l’Atlantique, la concurrence entre les grands énergéticiens s’accélère. Récemment, la fusion de Siemens avec Gamesa traduisait la volonté de l’industriel germanique de se tourner vers ce nouvel horizon pour l’énergie éolienne. Pourtant, au Mexique, au Chili et au Brésil, c’est surtout les technologies françaises et le groupe EDF Energies Nouvelles qui ont remporté des succès dernièrement.
En effet, l’entreprise dirigée par Antoine Cahuzac vient d’officialiser « plus de 648 MW de projets renouvelables dans ces trois pays et compte mettre en service d’ici 2019 plus de 1,4 GW de projets éoliens et solaires dans cette région ». D’ailleurs, ces décisions d’investissement s’inscrivent pleinement dans le cadre de la stratégie de l’électricien « CAP 2030 », qui prévoit un développement des ENR concomitamment à une internationalisation de ses activités.
