Le 28 octobre, Capgemini a publié les conclusions de la 18ème édition de l’étude annuelle réalisée par son Observatoire des Marchés Européens de l’Energie (OMEE). Ce document propose notamment d’améliorer les capacités de stockage de l’électricité pour permettre aux énergies renouvelables de poursuivre leur développement.
Pour répondre à ses objectifs climatiques, l’Union Européenne développe massivement les énergies renouvelables. A la suite de la COP21, elle devra effectivement assurer « 40% de réduction des GES à l’horizon 2030 ».
Dans ce contexte, le responsable du secteur Energie & Utilities chez Capgemini, Perry Stoneman, affirme que « le rythme de développement des énergies renouvelables est dicté (…) sans prise en compte des besoins d’équilibrage des réseaux ni des caractéristiques de la consommation ». Toujours selon ce dernier, il faut désormais « accélérer le développement de technologies qui permettront de déployer des systèmes de stockage compétitifs (par batteries par exemple) permettant d’optimiser l’usage de l’électricité produite ».
Depuis 2004, on apprend par ailleurs que « les investissements dans les renouvelables en Europe ont atteint 750 milliards d’euros ce qui représente un quart des investissements mondiaux alors que l’Europe ne représente que 7% de la population mondiale ». Pour autant, l’experte du secteur Energie et Utilities chez Capgemini, Colette Lewiner, assure que « des efforts supplémentaires en R&D et en industrialisation sont nécessaires ».
Plusieurs réformes sont notamment préconisées. C’est notamment le cas pour le système de subvention des énergies renouvelables, devenues matures, mais aussi pour le modèle d’affaires des Utilies, afin de « réaliser les gains de productivité, d’améliorer leur rentabilité et de devenir plus innovants et agiles ».
Enfin, les auteurs du document estiment que « les gestionnaires de réseaux de distribution ont de plus en plus un rôle central dans le fonctionnement du marché », particulièrement pour ce qui concerne l’évaluation « des technologies de stockage de l’électricité qui contribuent à l’équilibrage du réseau ».
