Le groupe énergétique français Engie a officiellement lancé le jeudi 15 septembre dernier le premier dispositif intelligent de stockage d’énergie dédié au « réglage fréquence » sur le réseau français. Baptisé BattGrid, ce système est mis à la disposition du gestionnaire du réseau de transport d’électricité RTE afin de faciliter l’équilibrage entre production et consommation d’électricité et maintenir ainsi la bonne fréquence sur le réseau.

Garantir l’équilibre du réseau

Garantir l’équilibre du réseau électrique français impose à RTE de maintenir sa fréquence à 50 Hz. En cas de production trop importante par rapport à la consommation par exemple, la fréquence augmente et l’électricité produite en surplus est perdue. S’il est facile dans ce cas de réguler la production pour limiter les pertes, une augmentation soudaine de la consommation (en hiver par exemple) est plus préoccupante et implique la mise en route de moyens de production très réactifs (comme les centrales thermiques notamment). Les variations de la consommation peuvent en effet entrainer des déséquilibres et RTE se doit alors de ramener le réseau à son point de stabilité. Ce service est appelé le « réglage fréquence ».

Depuis janvier 2016, la réglementation française a mis un terme au recours exclusif à des installations raccordées au réseau de transport pour assurer l’équilibrage, et autorise désormais l’utilisation de nouvelles alternatives comme les sites consommateurs (particuliers, entreprises, industries, etc.) ou les dispositifs de stockage raccordés au réseau de distribution d’électricité. Une opportunité que le groupe Engie a su mettre à profit. Le groupe français propose pour la première fois en France une offre innovante de réglage fréquence à partir du système de stockage BattGrid, d’une puissance d’1 MW et doté d’une batterie lithium-ion.

Comme l’explique dans un communiqué Edouard Neviaski, Directeur Général de l’unité « Global Energy Management » du groupe Engie, « le lancement de cette offre innovante de réglage fréquence à partir du système BattGrid illustre à la fois la capacité du Groupe à atteindre cet objectif, à s’adapter aux changements réglementaires et à saisir de nouvelles opportunités commerciales ».

Le premier dispositif d’équilibrage commercialisé

Conçu et testé par Engie Ineo à Toulouse dans le cadre du « Smart Grid », premier réseau électrique intelligent expérimenté à l’échelle d’une zone d’activité en France, le système BattGrid permet de proposer des solutions innovantes de gestion intelligente de l’énergie aux collectivités et aux industriels. Le système est connecté au réseau de distribution d’électricité et permet de stocker l’énergie excédentaire afin de la réinjecter si nécessaire sur ce même réseau.

Ce système de stockage est à l’heure actuelle, le premier dispositif d’équilibrage commercialisé dans l’Hexagone et offre une alternative supplémentaire très avantageuse au gestionnaire RTE. Il est facilement disponible et exploitable, la batterie répondant aux besoins en énergie plus rapidement que les centrales de production traditionnelles. Il permet également de proposer un service de réglage fréquence à un prix compétitif, et contribue à réduire l’empreinte carbone du réseau électrique français, en utilisant une énergie déjà produite.

« Les enjeux de la transition énergétique nous imposent de faire un meilleur usage de l’énergie. Aujourd’hui, le réseau électrique évolue pour devenir plus communicant, plus interactif et plus intelligent. Il intègre des énergies renouvelables intermittentes et des dispositifs de stockage », explique Yann Rolland, Président-Directeur Général d’ENGIE Ineo.
